More ETR 610 Pendolinos for SBB

SWISS Federal Railways (SBB) has exercised an option worth SFr 120m ($US 128.8m) with Alstom for four additional ETR 610 Pendolino tilting EMUs.

Alstom and Cisalpino, the now defunct joint venture between Trenitalia and SBB, signed an initial contract for 14 of the 250km/h seven-car trains in March 2004 and SBB subsequently exercised an option in July 2012 for eight additional sets, which are currently being delivered. The remaining four trains from the second option will enter service by December 2016 in time for the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel.

The multi-system trains will be used on Milan – Geneva/Basle and Milan – Zürich services pending the delivery of 29 new EC250 EMUs from Stadler, which will enter service from 2019 onwards.

De SBB heeft een optie gebruikt voor de levering van nog vier ETR 610 kantelbaktreinen voor de lijn Milaan - Basel & Zürich. De optie heeft een waarde van $128,8 miljoen.

Niet dat de ETR 610 nou zo goed is, maar hij is wel beter dan zijn stilvallende, tractieverliezende, kantelbakinstallatie-problemen hebbende, vertragingveroorzakende en vlamvattende ETR 470... :X Dus als deze optie er nog eens bij komt, valt te hopen dat dat stuk ex-Cisalpinoschroot eindelijk eens het SBB-net verlaat.
